Not a morning person? Right there with you! The truth is, as much fun as night owls can have, it's important to have enough rest for the energy needed for a demanding daytime job. Plus, getting up earlier can help you procrastinate less, and improve your mood and happiness! Through practice, I have found these 5 things have helped me be a better morning person. #1 Create a playlist or pick an artist that you may normally save for nighttime jamming or weekend dancing to get you going in the morning! It doesn’t necessarily have to be all sunshine and rainbows kind of music, but something that has some upbeat rhythms and that you find interesting or inspiring. Might I suggest:
#2 Write down all of the reasons why getting up earlier can benefit your life. Chances are, if you're reading this, you you have shelter and you have your life! Even if getting up means going to a class or job you don't love, it is still an opportunity to learn and get you closer to figuring out what you do want! #3 Meal prep! The night before you have an early day, have your breakfast planned and as readily available as possible. Also, have a healthy lunch packed and ready to go to have something to look forward to during your morning and give you the energy to push through the day. Simple and quick breakfasts I love include eggs, avocado, corn tortillas, spinach and beans. This it packed full of protein to fill you up and give you energy! An easy, healthy and affordable lunch I’ll pack is a leafy green salad with white albacore tuna and whatever veggies I have readily available to throw into the mix like carrots, grape tomatoes, cucumbers or cauliflower. #4 Have an activity waiting for you bedside to entice you to get into bed! Take a break from your devices to unplug and settle the brain with crocheting, coloring, doodling, reading a real book, or writing some snail mail be it a belated thank you note or "thinking of you" as I'm sure you know someone going through trying times. You will feel as good as sending it out as they will to receive it! Embrace the peace and quiet the light of a morning day has to offer!
There is a beauty and stillness you get to enjoy all to yourself in the early morning hours when the birds are chirping and the air is fresh before having to start your commute in traffic or talk to anyone! This is certainly something to look forward to when tucking yourself in at a reasonable hour to get a good 7 hours of rest. I hope these 5 things will help you for those days when you really need be up and at 'em! Please share any other tips that make your morning better!
